Christel Vesters

Christel Vesters is a curator, writer and researcher, based in Amsterdam. She studied art history and curating in Amsterdam, New York and London, and holds an MA in Art History from the University of Amsterdam. Currently, Vesters is a PhD student in the Department of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam. Her research centres on the idea of the exhibition as a space for alternative modes of thinking and knowledge production, investigating its political agency vis-à-vis dominant systems of knowledge. In tandem with her PhD research, Vesters is initiator and curator of the longer-term, research-based project ‘Unfinished Systems of Non-Knowledge’, which consists of public lectures and performance events. Christel has an established a career in art criticism and curating. She has curated numerous exhibitions and discursive projects, including the successful lecture series and publication Now is the Time: Art & Theory in the 21st Century. She regularly contributes to various international art magazines and art publications, including Afterall, Flash Art and Metropolis M, and the Dutch news magazine De Groene Amsterdammer and journal De Gids. In 2014 she was the Mondriaan Fonds curator-in-residence at CCS Bard, New York, where she divided her time between research and teaching.
